Sedation Dentistry

The purpose of sedation dentistry is to help patients to completely relax their muscles, allowing the dental work to proceed smoothly and often allowing a lengthy procedure to be completed in one, rather than several, visits. This is especially applicable to people who normally are very tense, even jumpy, in the dentist’s chair.

Sedation means the reduction of agitation by the use of a sedative drug. With oral sedation, only a low dose is needed, administered as a pill or liquid before treatment. Though sedation dentistry is sometimes referred to as sleep dentistry, the patient remains awake enough to be able to respond to the dentist, while remaining completely relaxed.

Since there are risks connected with any drug, and these vary according to the age and physical condition of the patient, Dr. Taylor will assess your health condition and advise you as to the risks.
